Daughters for Life to Honour Christiane Amanpour, Vera Banoun, Michael Dan at its 6th Annual Gala Dinner
Early bird tables available, all proceeds go towards women’s education
The Daughters for Life Foundation (DFL) will honour Christiane Amanpour, Vera Banoun, and Michael Dan at its 6th Annual Gala Dinner on October 30, 2018 at the Carlu in Toronto. The three honourees will be presented with Luminary Awards at this year’s event, which is held annually in support of the charity’s mission to provide young women in the Middle East with access to higher education. Early bird tables are available for $2500 until August 15th.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception that includes a live painting session with Canadian artist Mike Hammer, followed by dinner with live entertainment, a discussion featuring current DFL Scholars, and the presentation of the Luminary Awards. World-renowned journalist Christiane Amanpour will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Vera Banoun, the first female mayor of Bethlehem, will be awarded the Trailblazer Award, and philanthropist Michael Dan will receive the Leadership Award.
The Honorary Chairs for the evening will be Abdullah Snobar, Executive Director of the DMZ at Ryerson University; Suleiman Rashid, partner at Rashid & Quinney Professional Corporation; Dr. Douglas Kneale, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Windsor; Dr. James Orbinski, humanitarian practitioner and leading scholar in global health; Roberta Bondar, Canadian neurologist and astronaut; Dr. Susan Mumm, Principal of Brescia University College; Dr. Gervan Fearon, President of Brock University; Leslie Dan, Canadian businessman and philanthropist; and Gerry Schwartz and Heather Reisman, founder of Onex Corp. and CEO of Indigo Books & Music, respectively.
The 6th Annual Gala Dinner will continue the success of the previous year’s event which attracted nearly four-hundred attendees in support of the foundation’s vision and work. Amongst the supporters was respected member of provincial government, the Honourable Reza Moridi, and entertainment for the night included a performance from acclaimed Lebanese-Canadian soprano Miriam Khalil.
Early bird tables are available for $2500 until August 15th, each table seating ten people. Tables are regularly $3000, and individual tickets are $300. All proceeds from the event will go to helping ambitious young women from the Middle East achieve their dreams through scholarships at top educational institutions in Canada, the US, and the UK.
